Tooji appeared on Norwegian morning television show God Morgen Norge this week, to sing two songs for his fellow countryfolk. He chose new single ‘Rebels’ (his first TV performance of the track), plus his next single ‘Diamond Doors’ (also the first TV performance of that one, natch). He did acoustic versions of both.
Here’s the original version of ‘Rebels’, should you have missed it.
And it’s particularly on the vocally demanding ‘Rebels’ that Tooji sounded the most amaze during his live performance. Acoustic versions do serve a purpose every once in a while, and this was one of them. We ain’t never heard him sing like THAT before. Plus the track takes on a whole new dimension in acoustic form. It’s actually quite a sad song in this new version, with the lyrics now channeling feelings of regret towards a life never lived. And with his vocal portraying those feelings wonderfully.
With next single ‘Diamond Doors’, we don’t have the original version to compare it to. But on the strength of the acoustic performance of the song, it sounds like it’s gonna be another good ‘un.
