Timoteij have recently released the best Scandinavian pop album of the year with ‘Tabu’, oh yes they have. And to continue with this streak of amazingnessness, they’ve also chosen to release the best song on there as the new single – the title track ‘Tabu’.
Regular readers will already be familiar with the preview we gave of it ahead of its release, and also with the performance they gave of it on Vakna med The Voice recently. But if you haven’t yet heard this masterpiece in full, well you really need to remedy that. And we’re here to help.
Yes, we just called it a masterpiece because that’s what it ruddy well is. In fact, dare we say it, the best Scandipop single released this year that isn’t ‘Euphoria’. It’s sort of ridiculous in a way, but in a totally brilliant way. In fact, it’s really quite ludicrous – but again, in the best possible way. It’s traditional Timoteij, made-over with a dance beat, and given an extended dubstep breakdown. And it’s truly a dubstep breakdown to end all dubstep breakdowns. Britney arguably started the trend with ‘Hold It Against Me’. And Timoteij have well and truly shut the door on it with ‘Tabu’ – nobody can possibly better it, so don’t even try.
And all this while the girls are singing a lyric that goes “nothing is taboo now, nothing is taboo“. And it’s true – nothing is taboo now, nothing. Wow.
