There’s a SUPERB new dance track out in Sweden at the moment. One that we didn’t particularly like at first, but that we’re pretty much LIVING FOR today. The very definition of a ‘grower’.
It’s called ‘(They Won’t) Play Me On The Radio’ and it’s by a gentleman called Sebastian Larsson, who’s parading around as The Provider for artistic intents and purposes. It’s starts off as a simple electro track, down-played and fairly unassuming. That is until the chorus makes itself known – a thrilling monstrosity of a more commercial house and trance flavoured sound.
What we really like about it though, is the song’s lyrics. As the title suggests (quite cleverly with the use of brackets, we think!), it’s all about an artist’s frustration with the fact that his music isn’t getting heard – ”Been working AM to PM, still not on AM or FM, I’m fucked, but I ain’t givin up”. They’re a little cheesy in places, but they’re summed up best during the song’s bridge;
“When you’re in a bar, driving in your car, watching MTV – you won’t hear from me”
“When you’re in a club, bottle full of bub, dancing all night long – you won’t hear this song”
It’s got its own video too. It’s a bit grim really, with the artist actually going so far as to start getting aggressively violent in his frustration. But it’s done really well, and it certainly makes an impression too!
