The Melodifestivalen Files: Scotts

Despite the fact that nobody had heard of them six months ago, and they’re up against countless well loved and seasoned pros, Scotts are one of the firm favourites to win Melodifestivalen this year. The reason? Well for a few months up until just before Christmas, lots of Swedes were falling in love with them and televoting for them on prime time Saturday night television! They competed on and won Dansband Kampen. The show was a X Factor/Idol style series for dansbands. And it’ll be interesting to see how the new dansband idols, Scotts, fare against dansband legends Thorleifs, who are competing in Melodifestivalen this year for the first time. Scotts had the number one album in Sweden over Christmas.

We’re not massively up on our dansband knowledge, but we do know that we like the newer, more dance orientated stuff that we have heard – Christer Sjogren‘s ‘I Love Europe’ being a good example. And it’s definitely a genre that we’d like to explore more in the future. For now though, we’re looking forward to hearing the entries from both Thorleifs and Scotts. The entry from Scotts in particular sounds like it’s going to be write up our street. It was composed by Ingela Pling Forsman along with Martin Hedstrom and Lars Diedricson. It’s described as fast Swedish pop with a sharp chorus. We’re quite looking forward to seeing the gents themselves – in particular the rather attractive blonde! Scotts will compete in Heat One of Melodifestivalen on February 7th.
