The Melodifestivalen Files: Molly Sanden

Molly sanden webbOne of the most exciting names to have been added to the list of 2009 competitors so far is Molly Sanden. Despite having never entered Melodifestivalen before, Molly is well known to Eurovision fans as she’s already represented Sweden at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, in 2006. She finished a respectable third with the song ‘Det Finaste Nagon Kan Fa’, all the more admirable because there were no other Scandinavian countries in the competition and thus no neighbourly votes cast.

Since Junior Eurovision, Molly has stayed just above the radar in Sweden. This year she appeared on the Swedish release of the molly sanden och ola du aer musiken i mig sHigh Musical 3 soundtrack, on the bonus track ‘Just Har, Just Nu’, a duet with Brandur. And last year, she appeared on the High School Musical 2 soundtrack, singing the Swedish version of ‘You Are The Music In Me’ with Ola. She also appeared on the Christmas album released by Magnus Carlsson in 2006, and toured Sweden in the Diggiloo tours in 2007 and 2008 alongside the likes of Nanne Gronvall, Linda Bengtzing, Amy Diamond, and Mans Zelmerlov!

molly195 56181aMolly will be performing yet another ballad at Melodifestivalen next year. But we’re actually quite looking forward to hearing it – if her ballad from Junior Eurovision is anything to go by. The new song ‘Sa Vill Stjarnorna’ has been described as a beautiful, typically Swedish ballad. It’s been written by Bobby Ljunggren, Marcos Ubeda, and Ingela Pling Forsman – which is quite promising! Ljunggren wrote last year’s winner ‘Hero’, as well as countless other Melodifestivalen hits in recent years. Forsman has been behind the catchiest schlager entries of late, and Ubeda co-wrote ‘Never Let It Go’ by Afro-Dite. *sigh* If only it was an uptempo stormer….
