The infamously amazing Stockholm Pride festival is coming up very soon. Yes yes yes, equality, pride, gay, etc etc are all very important and stuff, but we all know the real reason why Stockholm Pride is the most fabulous of pride festivals anywhere in the world – it’s because we can all come together and celebrate the brilliant line-up of popstars it offers up on a silver platter every year.

And we’re very happy and (as it happens) Proud to announce that now there’s even more reason to be getting excited about it all. This year, scandipop.co.uk is co-producing the big Thursday night bash.

Thursday night has always been the extra special jewel in Stockholm Pride’s crown. It’s the kind of night that you just couldn’t and wouldn’t find anywhere else in the world – the schlager night. This year we’re of course staying true to its schlager sensibilities, but we’re also going to be mixing it up a bit. There’ll be artists from both Eurovision and Melodifestivalen, but there’ll also be a certain kind of pop music that we feel fits in well with the impeccable tastes of the schlager loving crowd. Pop that shares schlager’s intense shine. So yes, it’s a schlager night, but it’s also a pop night. This year it’s a veritable Scandipop night.

And so what does all this mean, musically speaking?

Well it means that we can have a broader scope of artists to invite to perform on the night. So alongside summer 2012’s biggest hit in Sweden, Ivi Adamou from Eurovision, we can have summer 2011’s biggest hit in Sweden, Eric Amarillo. As well as Sean Banan flaunting his Melodifestivalen wares, we’ll have Eddie Razaz premiering his hugely anticipated solo material post REbound. Plus, on top of featuring new Eurovision and Melodifestivalen talent such as Ott Lepland and Mimi Oh, there’ll be brand new talent from outside of the contests that we’re also hugely excited about, and that we feel needs to be showcased to this audience – such as Smith & Thell. Then there are acts that have competed in Melodifestivalen, but who are much better known and loved for their music outside of the contest – such as Da Buzz and Linda Sundblad.

And it goes without saying that we’re jextremely jexcited about Jedward.

There’ll also be some schlager and pop veterans on the night too, like Andreas Lundstedt, Sonja Aldén, and Jessica Folcker. And we’re very much looking forward to Melodifestivalen favourites Love Generation coming along to unveil their new image under their new bandname Stockholm Syndrome, and debuting some new music, as well as their Melodifestivalen hits.

There’s lots of other artists confirmed too, some that will be announced in the run up to the night, and some that will be kept secret until the night itself.

It all happens on Thursday, August 2nd, at Tantolunden Park in Stockholm. Do come along – we’ll be making sure it’s an oh-oh-oh-amazing evening’s entertainment.
