YouTube has announced that it testing its new feature for creators called Reels’. Video creators will be able to express themselves and interact with fans through this feature. The new feature is in an attempt to compete with other social media networks like Snapchat Stories and Instagram Stories. The new feature is expected to allow users to capture photos or videos then edit them by inserting text, art, filters, stickers, music and more. After editing you can broadcast them to your fans or followers via a reel playing out like a story. The feature only limits the user to one short video per day. SnapChat’s and Instagram’s stories last only for 24 hours, the YouTube stories-like will last forever unless the creator chooses to remove it. Videos on Reels will have a maximum playtime of 30 seconds.
According to tech reports, the Reels will be available in a brand new tab and only to those creators that have over 10,000 subscribers. Moreover, in 2017, the tech giant launched YouTube Community in September for few channels. All of this is under one tab and since the launch, this feature has been used by many users. Channel owners can also enable notifications for Community posts to notify subscribers whenever new content is posted.
The stories-like is expected to roll-out soon around the world. But YouTube has not yet decided when the new feature is still being tested. Reels will be only available to few channels before making it available to many channels.
