The mega-band U2 is about to launch the tour for their new album Songs of Innocence. If you haven’t already heard of this new album, you should have. It was downloaded automatically to every iTunes user on the planet. Some people complained, and Bono apologized. However, there really might not have been much to apologize about. Songs of Innocence is a great album, and it was free! You really can’t complain about that. Unless, of course, you are someone who simply likes to complain in rooms full of U2-less silence.

U2’s last tour was the most successful ever. The 360 tour from the album No Line on the Horizon was launched in 2009, three years after the album’s release date. It consisted of 110 concerts insides stadiums that could barely hold the massive stage and equipment. The stage took four days to assemble with the help of 120 trucks each time. Notwithstanding, the Songs of Innocence tour will hopefully trump that. But how?

The Edge, U2’s number-two man, says it will be better by simply starting small. What this means is anyone’s guess. However, Bono hinted that their goal this time around will be to play more concerts on the tour indoors rather than outdoors. The limits of physical space will prevent the tour from swelling to the massive proportions of the previous event.

Even if the tour itself proves to be small by comparison, the effort that went into the Songs of Innocence album certainly was not. The band reportedly recorded over 100 songs for the project. They also made an effort to recreate themselves.

This is a tricky thing to do. U2 wanted to sound like U2 but not exactly be the same U2 everyone has come to know over the past two decades. So what did U2 do? They looked into their past. Bono related how the band went back and listened to all of their old Ramones and Clash albums to reconnect with the music that inspired them all to become rock stars. They wanted to recall what it was like to be 21 or 23 again. They wanted to capture that essence of seeing the world accelerating towards you and not being able to do a thing about it expect make good music.

No dates are set yet for the 2015 Songs of Innocence tour. However, the band and their family members are already excited about the prospect of touring again. Bono and the Edge related how touring is almost like taking all of Dublin on a terrific road trip. It certainly will be a terrific road trip, especially for those eagerly waiting for Bono and his buddies to arrive in their cities. Regardless of where and when the Songs of Innocence tour begins, you can get tickets for the U2 events on Ticketbis. Don’t be late in snagging your tickets while you can. If the success of their last tour is any indication, these tickets will be expected to sell out fast.
