Sonja Aldén last night debuted some brand new material on Swedish television. ‘Omkring Tiggarn Från Luossa’ – the first song to be taken from her forthcoming album, due out on October 16th.
It’s a cover of an old Swedish folk song, perhaps made most famous by Björn from ABBA in his band prior to forming the quartet, The Hootenanny Singers. A melodic, old fashioned ballad, delivered to perfection by Sonja’s vox. The studio recording of the song is simplistic and organic, on which those aforementioned vox take centre stage over any production. Contains massive choir at the end.
Here she is performing it live last night on Sommarkrysset. The final minute and a half is quite epic. It involves a key change.
