What’s this? Swedish duo Vargas & Lagola released their second album at the weekend – ‘Mount Alda’. And a huge highlight on there is this incredible track – ‘Daughter Of A Rifleman’.
Daughter of a rifleman?! “You say that I am a son of a gun, but you’re a daughter of a rifleman“.
What’s it like? A cinematic masterpiece of a ballad. Down-tempo and blues-y Americana crossed with soaring Nordic heart-break melodies. It sounds like a newly unearthed standard from a long time ago, and will easily make its mark as a classic within their repertoire – however long they may last. Which we hope is a long, long time.
Written by? The pair themselves – Vincent Pontare and Salem Al Fakir.
More from Vargas & Lagola? Check out the whole album – ‘Mount Alda‘. It’s a ten-track (eight songs and two interludes) record that also features the excellent recent singles, ‘Suddenly’ and ‘Always’.
And what’s the relevance of Mount Alda? In their own words: “Mount Alda is the mountain of truth and wisdom. Together, in our inner world, we have climbed that mountain over the past year. The effort has shown us the way forward musically and resulted in the collection of songs we now share.”
