SONG: Svala – ‘Paper’ (Iceland’s Eurovision 2017 Entry)

Some epic electropop from Iceland. ‘Paper’ by Svala last night won the contest to represent Iceland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

We’re immensely pleased about this. Of the line-up of songs on offer in Iceland, ‘Paper’ immediately stood out as the big highlight from the bunch. It rejects the notion that Nordic synthpop should be ice-cold, and instead fuels the song with a fiery passion that’s played out in the production and via Svala’s impactful vocal. And in a Eurovision context it draws comparisons to both Margaret Berger’s ‘I Feed You My Love’ and Loreen’s ‘Euphoria’, in its song and performance. And well, yes. We’ll be getting fully behind Iceland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

You can find ‘Paper’ on our Best New Synthpop playlist.
