They’ve not done a cover of that song have they? Well with that title, do you really think it’s gonna be any other song?
This is an unexpected direction! It’s a path that’s been treaded by one of Sweden’s most beloved artists of all time, Lill-Babs. So why not The Mamas? Summer is here, and so they’ve rolled out the novelty hit for the occasion. And it……..kinda makes sense when you hear it?
What have they done with it? Their version is one that has more in common with the original from 1960, rather than the bubblegum pop cover from 1990. And so in that sense it actually suits them quite well. Or rather, they make sure that it suits them, by being the versatile pop goddesses that they are. For example, we don’t remember the lines “she came to slay” or “showing her curves” in the Brian Hyland original. His loss, really.
What do The Mamas say? “Even though it’s a song with playful lyrics wrapped in a fun summery beat, it comes with an important message about the journey from body shaming to body positivity; a modern take on a classic tale of the perfect beauty standards and impossible societal norms that affect our confidence, image and self-worth, and how to break away from them.”
Song of the summer? Let’s just start with song *for* the summer and work our way from there, shall we?
