What’s this? New music from Icelandic artist Glowie – her first in almost two years. This is her latest single ‘Throwback’.
Cool title. Cool song. And it’s an apt title, too. It’s a dizzying mix of influences from retro bangers of yesteryear, which in turn contribute to this – what’s already seeming like one of the best songs out there right now. You’ll probably pick up reference points of your own, but to our ears we’d call it a cross between ‘Work’ by Ciara, ‘Block Party’ by Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes and ‘Boom Boom Pow’ by Black Eyed Peas. And that’s a whole lotta bang contained within one song.
What does Glowie say?I wrote the song at a time when I felt like I had lost some of my love for music. I wanted to remember how I felt about music as a kid when I would dig through CDs at home, trying to find anything to listen to and when I’d find something I liked, I’d listen to it over and over and dance to it. Music was so precious to me and I wanted to feel that again. Writing ‘Throwback’ helped reinstill my love for music.
