It’s one of the biggest Norwegian exports of the decade. But it’s not pop. It is however, a TV show that makes exceptional use of pop music within its episodes, and in particular some of its key scenes. It’s SKAM. And if you’re not yet familiar with it, then there are plenty of places elsewhere online to read about the show itself – this piece from The Guardian summing it up well for English readers.
What we wanted to do was to highlight some of the best examples of Scandinavian pop music that the programme has showcased so far in its first three seasons. As you would hope and expect from a TV show that’s made in Norway and loves to shoehorn in plenty of tunes, they have proved pretty nifty at focusing many of the show’s moments to a soundtrack of some very good Scandipop.
We’ve picked out our sixteen favourite Scandipop tracks from SKAM’s seasons 1 to 3, and you can check them out below.
Also check out the obligatory accompanying Spotify playlist that we’ve put together – Skamdipop.
