Sisse Marie has quietly been turning herself into one of the most interesting popstars that Denmark has to offer right now. Well – we say quietly – but then she has been doing it via the release of two EPs. ‘The Black Cat’ version X, and ‘The Black Cat’ version Y. Version X is the club banger EP containing 5 songs – the same 5 songs that appear as slower tracks on Version Y.
It’s the Version Y that Sisse seems to be preferring, having already spent the last few years as a Clubland Countess. And in pushing forward the wares of Version Y, she’s turning herself into quite the Lana Dansk Rey. Much to our delight.
Previously to this we’ve had ‘Black Cat version Y’, and this week she’s released the video for ‘My Boy version Y’. It’s another stunning and cinematic piece of retro glamour – condensed into a pop song. And the great thing about Sisse Marie’s inimitable vocal, is that while it sounded practically novelty on her dance music past, here and now it sounds like it was made for the era which these new songs seem to celebrate. It accentuates the drama.
