It’s been far too long since we wrote about a DANSBAND act on here. Although the glory days of CC & Lee and their ilk bashing out schlager anthems like ‘Linjen I Min Hand’ and its ilk seem to be having some off time at the moment. Well – until Elisa out of Elisa’s brings her “Linda Bengtzing-esque schlager number” to next year’s Melodifestivalen, according to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
Until then though, here’s a new dansband track that came out recently which we’re really liking right now. It’s from those Scotts chaps who took a bit of a lengthy hiatus after their last album in 2010. Apparently a new album will be forthcoming in early 2014. And here’s the first single from it. ‘Hurt’.
It’s not a schlager track by any means. But nor is it one of those country music abominations that the Swedish dansband scene are so fond of. And it goes without saying that it’s not a rockabilly *vomits* number either. Instead, it’s a sophisticated pop song. Something that sounds like it could have been released by Måns Zelmerlöw around the time of his second album ‘MZW’. That may or may not be because Måns actually had a hand in writing ‘Hurt’.
We sort of resented Scotts when they took part in Melodifestivalen 2009. Because we didn’t like the song (back then) and because 2009 was our favourite Melodifestivalen year EVER, with so many great names taking part. So we sort of felt like they were getting in the way of some of our favourites doing well. Now though, with a song like ‘Hurt’, we’d love to see them back in the contest next year – fickle as we are. Just not in the same heat as Elisa please thank you very much indeed.
‘Hurt’ was written by Linda Sundblad, Måns Zelmerlöw and Dimitri Stassos. Here they are performing the song at the Världens Barn charity gala last month.
