Red One (Konvict…Gah ah Gah ah….Whoah oh…Oh) has been raving about his latest production on twitter this week. Plus, the rest of his production team have been tweeting him with phrases of support such as ”you killed it”, and ”this is the shit”. So we thought we should check it out, to see if it actually was, in fact, the shit. Mohombi’s single has a special place in Red One’s heart, as along with Love Generation, he’s signed to Red One’s own record label, a joint venture with Universal.
The song is called ‘Bumpy Ride’. And it’s an amalgamation of Mohombi’s own scandipop flavours (he’s Swedish) with his African influences (he’s of half Congolese descent). On first listen it sounds like it could be ripping off Kevin Little’s ‘Turn Me On’ from 2003. But that’s only the verses really. And when the song is over, it’s the super catchy chorus that you remember most of all. It’s still the kind of song that’s been done thousands of times before, the it’s also the kind of song that if it’s done well, you don’t really mind that it’s been done one more time. And this has been done well. It’s Red One.
Naturally, his camp are calling it the huge hit of the summer. And perhaps it will be. Here it is.
