Christ almighty here’s a scorcher of a brand new schlager song. And surprisingly, it brings with it Miss Regina Lund returning to the genre kicking and screaming.
We never thought we’d find her poking about amongst the depths of schlager music after her (amazing) ‘Rainbow Star’ performed so undeservedly underwhelmingly at Melodifestivalen 2007, finishing dead last in its heat (det var perfekt, precis som det var!). But back she is – and with a great with bang, at that.
‘Starlight’ is credited to Mmadkatz and Regina Lund, and will be competing in this year’s Baltic Song Contest – whatever that is. It doesn’t matter though. What matters is, is that it’s a sublime piece of schlager pop. It’s got definite echoes of ABBA (of course) and a chugging, militant beat that demands to be paid attention to, and above all admired. As you wish, Sir ‘Starlight’.
This doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but thank Christ for that. Regina darling we don’t know what gave you the sudden change of heart, but welcome back to the fold. We’ve missed you. More of this please, and no more songs in which you namecheck your “cunt” – (we’re not jesting).
