The original Swedish dance diva of the 90s, Pandora, is celebrating her 20 years as an artist with the release of a brand new single, ‘I Feel Alive’. And as you would hope and expect at this milestone of her career, she ain’t changing gears just yet – ‘I Feel Alive’ is another dance track!
A suitably celebratory lyric paired with a clubland production that itself has a sense of the euphorics about it. ‘I Feel Alive’ is both a statement of accomplishment, and a fevered declaration of triumph over adversity – in this case the adversity being the years that have stacked up against her. All set to a decent tune of course. It’s ‘Laserlight’ by J-J-J-Jessie J and D-D-D-David G, given a superior Scandinavian makeover. That middle eight in particular is a beauty.
It’s funny how in 2013, all of our Swedish dance divas of the noughties are notably absent, and we’re left with the trailblazing Pandora of the 90s still standing. Last decade brought us September who has now left that genre behind forever, Velvet and Therese who have released a mere three singles between since 2010, and countless others who have since retired. We’ve got a brand new batch of artists this decade of course, and the Schlager Queens who have lasted even longer since the 80s. But when it comes to our female dance music icons of yesteryear, Pandora’s the only one who has never really left us. Cheers for that Pandora, we appreciate it!
‘I Feel Alive’ was written by Pandora herself, along with another Scandipop fave – Fredrik Sonefors. It’s out now, and has been released outside of Sweden too.
