Danish delight, Oh Land (or Nanna Øland Fabricius as she’s known to her nearest and dearest) has been pleasing a select crowd of online followers for the last couple of years with her brand of Scandinavian pop craft. At her best, she sounds like Björk when Björk was still making listenable music (check ‘Perfection‘ to see what we mean). But it’s her current single, ‘We Turn It Up’ that has really made us sit up and pay some proper attention.

It’s a short and sweet number. Half majorette, half military drums, create a marching beat that backs up a summery tune which is big on synths. And is that a xylophone we hear?! Lyrically, it’s semi-rebellion, with a half hearted but no less endearing chat of “we turn it up, we turn it up, we don’t care what you say-ay-ay“. It’s all very addictive!

After a low key album in 2008, ‘Fauna’, and a short self titled EP in October last year, Oh Land is now launching a full self titled album next month, on March 15th (including the UK and US). And so it makes sense that ‘We Turn It Up’ is the lead track to kick that off, as it’s certainly the most commercial thing she’s done so far.
