Orlygur Smari has been a busy man again! Fresh from inventing scandipop friendly songs from the likes of Paul Oscar, Bjartmar Thordarson, and Elektra, as well as writing one of the best tracks of 2008 – ‘This Is My Life’ by Euroband, he’s now gone and come up with the rather delicious ‘Give Me Sexy’ by Icelandic/American Haffi Haff.
‘Give Me Sexy’ manages the rare feat of coming across as fun, whilst exuding a certain element of cool. The lyrics, melody, and fast paced beats fill the arms aloft, joyous quota. And the fact that those said beats are electro, lends the song a feeling of trendiness – whatever that means these days. In any case, we absolutely love it!
Haffi Haff first came to our attention last year when he competed in Songvakeppni – to represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest, with the track ‘The Wiggle Wiggle Song’. He won his heat and progressed to the final, but as we all know, that final was won by Euroband with the aforementioned ‘This Is My Life’. The song became a hit in Iceland nevertheless, and earned him a full summer of gigs and concerts. He then recorded a song with fellow competition runners up Mercedes Club, called ‘See Me Now’. All his efforts now though, are concentrated on the release of ‘Give Me Sexy’ which is out now in Iceland. We spoke to Orlygur and he told us that if the ‘Give Me Sexy’ single performed well, then an album will be released very soon!
You can hear ‘Give Me Sexy’, ‘The Wiggle Wiggle Song’, ‘See Me Now’, and the very wierd but altogether wonderful ‘Bin Laden’, over at his myspace (where you’ll also be met with a very attractive picture!!!); www.myspace.com/haffihaff
