The weekend’s Så Mycket Bättre episode had the crew of artists each take a turn to interpret Sylwia Vrethammar’s rich catalogue of pop. We’ve already written about Darin’s ‘Magdalena (Livet Före Döden)’, so let’s take a listen to the other two artists we’re following on the program this year – Miss Li and Maja Ivarsson.
Miss Li took on ‘Somebody Loves You’ – an up-tempo and ridiculously joyous number that sounded half like Miss Li’s regular output, and half like Girls Aloud’s ‘Love Machine’. A sophisticated barn dance.
Maja Ivarsson’s version of Sylwia’s ‘Hasta La Vista’ turned into an enormously bizarre, but strangely enjoyable listen. Reggae-lite, with parts of it sounding like the soundtrack of a spaghetti western film, and all coming across as though it was produced using a second hand Casio keyboard from the 90s. THAT delivered via Maja’s detached vocal, and the fantastic melody at the heart of the song, meant that yeah – it was sort of brilliant really. In its own way.
