It’s fair to say that Timoteij were the pleasant surprise of the evening! Despite ‘Kom’ being our second favourite song of the night after Alcazar’s ‘Headlines’, we still didn’t think it had much of a chance of progressing any further in the competition – simply because it was such a strong heat, and because the more typical schlager songs haven’t been doing very well this year at Melodifestivalen. But we were very wrong, happily, and it won the entire heat, going straight through to the final.
Although it was at the expense of Alcazar getting a place in the final. They instead had to settle for a place in the andra chansen round. It was our favourite song and performance of the night, and it’s just another great track to add to Alcazar’s already magnificent repertoire. Darin predictably grabbed the other spot in the final. But another big surprise of the night was when Crucified Barbara got the second andra chansen place over Erik Linder. We liked both songs, but thought that Erik’s would have been the more popular of the two.
Getty Domain’s 6th placing was a big surprise to us, we thought that it would do much better. It was popular in the arena, and came third in the audience polls after the dress rehearsals. And we loved it too! Elin Lanto’s 7th placing was disappinting. And it was left to Johannes to take last place – which, to be fair, was deserved – in this heat at least.
Here are the four songs that were knocked out;
