You can watch last night’s Melodifestivalen right here until tomorrow night. And check out all of the performances (finalists aside) right here.

Robin Bengtsson turned up with a banger, and gave the best performance with the best staging of this year’s Melodifestivalen so far. So it’s on to the final with him thankfully.

Proving that the appetite for catchy, retro, fun songs is still very much alive, Owe Thörnqvist’s fans turned out in higher numbers than those of a boyband who’ve won three fan voted MTV EMA awards. That soft din you hear is the sound of Charlotte Perrelli quietly mulling over her latest musical direction. Owe’s troubadour schlager is through to the final. Where it’s gonna stand out. A lot!….

Qualifying to the Andra Chansen round, FO&O and Anton Hagman. With Bella & Fillipa finishing 5th, Jasmine Kara in 6th, and Krista Siegfrids in 7th.

All seven songs could have been finalists in other weeks though – we genuinely believe so. Particularly the songs finishing between 3rd and 5th. In another week, FO&O and Anton would very much have been the obvious qualifiers. And Bella & Fillipa’s ‘Crucified’ deserved to have a moment bestowed on it akin to that of Wiktoria’s ‘Save Me’.

Frustrating in a way, but we ain’t gonna complain about what ended up being a classic Melodifestivalen week!

Though special mention to Robin Bengtsson – while all songs were of top quality, his performance was in a different league to everyone else last night.

And on the subject of classic Melodifestivalen – kudos to them for getting Alcazar back as the interval act, and turning ‘Not A Sinner Nor A Saint’ into an anthem of empowerment for young girls. And for us, to be completely honest with you.
