Melodifestivalen 2009 – The Speculation!

SWE GBG Amy DiamondAs mentioned in the post directly below, SVT have given scandipop kittens a new ball of wool to play with. And already it’s been tangled up into all manner of garments! Not content with seeing the list of 28 song titles and composers, we’ve all been second guessing which performers will be chosen to front them – with schlager veterans Linda Bengtzing and Shirley Clamp returning to the frame, and young pretenders Agnes and Amy Diamond also being touted. Sweden’s two biggest newspapers haven’t helped matters by printing an incorrect list of performers and passing it off as definitive.

Some of them are indeed accurate, but quite a lot aren’t. scandipop.co.uk spoke to one of the jury members for Melodifestivalen, who confirmed the list’s lack of authenticity. They also confirmed a few singers that actually will be performing the songs, but have been omitted from the list – and there are some exciting names in there! One singer in particular has entered Melodifestivalen a few times before, but never had the success she deserved – but this year has one of the strongest songs in the competition. Which is (scandipop)music to our ears.

SVT will announce the official list later in the year. Until then, of course it’s fun to speculate – how else would we bide our time until February – but don’t believe anything you’ve read so far on the matter (this article excepted though).
