Amy Diamond’s ‘Greatest Hits’ album has been going down quite the treat in Sweden since its release! It’s been on sale for over a month now, and hasn’t left the top half of the Swedish album charts since. And she appeared on morning TV show, Nyhetsmorgon, last week to continue promoting it. She performed two tracks – one of her older hits ‘Welcome To The City’, and one of the newly recorded cover versions, ‘Perfect’.
We have such a huge affection for ‘Welcome To The City’. It was the song that made us first notice Amy, and it’s been one of our favourites from her ever since. It’s the perfect example of the retro, instrument focused, bubblegum pop that she does so well. The catchiest kind of pop, with a hyper and bouncy backing track. It sounds like it could be from a musical, or a children’s television show, but really it’s just such a clever pop song. And we still love it to this day. So it was nice to see Amy perform it five years on. It still sounds great, especially with the live instrumentation used, and she still delivers it as adorably as she did half a decade ago.
We interviewed Amy last month, and will be uploading the interview either later this week or over the weekend. We asked the standard sort of questions, the sort of things that we all want to know about this girl who has been famous since she was 12, and is releasing a Greatest Hits album aged 18. However, she did come out with one nugget of info that we found to be an absolutely fascinating insight into the typical Swedish pop career, and the general attitude that Swedish pop stars like Amy have towards their careers. It really wasn’t something that we were expecting to hear at all, and it was even more remarkable coming from someone in Amy’s position. It really made us think about how different the pop industry here in Sweden is to how things are done in the UK and US. So yes, DO keep a look out for that later this week.
For now, here are those two Nyhetsmorgon performances;
