Last night at the final in which Finland chose their entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, last year’s representative Krista Siegfrids used the opportunity to premiere her brand new single. And she went on to steal the show a little bit too.
‘Cinderella’ is the new single. And she performed it looking unrecognisable in cartoon punk pink hair, quiffed back with the power of Christ knows how many cans of hairspray. The whole thing was camp enough as it was, before doppelgangers of her and her dancers started arriving on stage – a child version of each, and a drag queen version of each. No explanation given, no relevance to any of the lyrics, just bonkers for the sake of it. Which is precisely what we want from Krista, and indeed a Nordic national final, at this stage.
The song itself is a pop (obviously) track that sways to the electro side of things. It’s got a big Katy Perry chorus, and a slight ABBA tinge to parts of its production. So that’ll be a big YES from us then.
Listen to the studio version below, but really it’s ALL about the live performance, which you can watch on YLE’s website.
EDIT: The video premiered this week! Watch;
