The Nordic Noir genre has a new force to be reckoned with. This Danish lady Kill J, who has just stepped onto the scene with an almighty debut single that somehow gives the genre an even darker edge.
It’s ‘Phoenix’. Both striking and sparse. It’s the kind of thing that would sound just as well placed on a film soundtrack, as it will on an album or EP. The vocals are haunting and ethereal. Almost to the point of creepy. But it just adds to the charm. Especially when she switches from high pitched psycho to breathy nonchalance.
