Massively rated Swedish trio Kate Boy returned this week with a brand new single and to huge joy fanfare. ‘Tis ‘Self Control’.
It’s their first release of 2014 (it doesn’t really feel like they’d been gone all that long though, does it?). ‘Self Control’ has the band picking up precisely where they left off with ‘The Way We Are’. And the two sound like sonic siblings. Up-tempo and jaunty while in the same breath being quite downbeat and dark. And perhaps therein lies the greatness of Kate Boy. ‘Self Control’ is another intriguingly well produced gem from the trio.
Apparently this is the first single to be taken from their debut album, so last year and the year before’s excellent releases look like they’re going to be staying in 2012 and 2013. Although we’re sure there’ll be a deluxe edition or something along those lines. It would be a shame to leave them behind.
