Who? Danish singer and songwriter Søren Emil Lunøe Schiødt.
That’s a whole lot of name AND a whole lot of ‘ø’. That might be why he’s abbreviated his artist name to the much more roll-off-the-tongue Soels. Yesterday he released his debut single – ‘Free’.
What’s it like? Sort of like three songs merged into one, tonally speaking. An almost spoken-word verse gives way to a rousing bridge, before we finally get a chorus that is nothing short of timeless in its melodic composition. And then in the final 30 seconds or so, the song plays out in yet another form – a romantic extension of everything that has come before it. It took us a minute to get our head around it, but we love it. It’s quite brilliant.
Written by? Soels himself, along with Emil Lei.
