Majestee of Sweden are a brand new music collective (from Sweden, obviously), made up of a production duo, a band, dancers, and a singer who capitalises the spelling of her own name. All good so far. ‘Governor’ is the debut single, written by the aforementioned production duo, Mattias Larsson and Robin Fredriksson (who call themselves Mattman & Robin – and we didn’t even make that up, honest), and the aforementioned singer who capitalises the spelling of her own name – INA (or Ina Forsberg, as she used to be known).
As debut singles go, ‘Governor’ is up there in the levels of “Christ, these guys are gonna be a welcome new addition on the pop scene aren’t they?”. It sounds like something that the likes of Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato would be ecstatic about having as the lead single from their latest albums. And in fact it’s actually kinda similar to, but a whole lot better than what the Norwegian production duo Stargate HAVE given Selena Gomez as the lead single from her latest album (although we do love us some ‘Come & Get It’ too, let’s not get things twisted here). ‘Governor’ is all fierce-girl-anthem backed by balls-out-production and delivered with attitude-laden-swagger.
And thankfully it’s got that main ingredient of popular song that makes us go \o/. The catchiness factor. Listen to this and attempt to not be all “when I’m runnin this town-oh-whoa-oh-oh” and “I’m running for governor, governor, eh eh“, afterwards. It’s not an easy task.
The single has been released today through Swedish indie label 100 Songs, and they’ve released it worldwide, at that. Soundcloud stream and iTunes link are both below.
We’re expecting great things from this Majestee of Sweden crowd. The production duo behind it, Mattman & Robin, are behind some sublime Scandipop hits of recent years – ‘Hello Goodbye’ by Erik Segerstedt & Tone Damli, ‘Smash’ by Tone herself, some of Eric Saade’s absolute best songs, ‘Made of Pop’, ‘Love Is Calling’, ‘Fingerprints’, and ‘Timeless’, AND the finest piece of music that Molly Sandén has ever put that amazing voice of hers to – ‘A Little Forgiveness’.
‘Governor’ is up there with the lot of them;
