Here’s a brand new song that was released week, which sounds a little bit Veronica Maggio, a little bit Linnea Henriksson, a little bit Laleh, and a little bit…well….schlager actually. We’re not cynical enough to suggest that Ida Wiklund has emulated little bits of as much of Swedish popular music as possible, to ensure that her new single ‘Kom Tillbaka’ is popular itself, however. More presenting her and her new song as being the product of the great music that is coming out of her native Sweden currently. In years to come, if they ask us to provide an insight into a segement of Swedish P3 pop in 2013, we would play them this.
From the triumphantly and infectiously joyous intro, to the defiant declaration of independence that are the lyrics of the first verse, to the Melodifestivalen-esque chorus (which in turn flips the lyrics of the verse into an actually-I-need-you-back scenario) – the whole thing is quite the sonic thrill. Arms-aloft glee is the theme of ‘Kom Tillbaka’, and it won us over within the first five seconds.
‘Kom Tillbaka’ was written by Ida Wiklund and Erik Sahlén, and produced by Jens Back. The EP is out now and has been released outside of Sweden too.
