Helena Paparizou, fresh from conquering the Melodifestivalen stage with THOSE performances of THAT song earlier this month, continued being amazing at everything this week, when she returned with the release of her new album ‘One Life’. And what do we have here? We have the best pop album of the year so far, dear readers.
A mixture of new songs plus English language recordings of some songs from her Greek album last year, it’s a mammoth exercise in making brilliant pop music. An all-killer-no-filler affair, that plays more like a Greatest Hits album than a regular studio album. #queenhelena indeed.
She’s gone and crammed the album full of pop banger after pop banger, with a few also quite brill ballads too. Amongst the top notch singles – ‘Survivor’, ‘Save Me (SOS)’, and ‘The Groove Is The Solution’ – other highlights are ‘Set Your Heart On Me’ and ‘Don’t Hold Back On Love’. Two massive pop tracks with the most phenomenal of choruses, both of them. We’re talking ‘Survivor’ levels of good here, although these two are a lot more dancepop. The new Kylie album really could have done with either of these.
There’s also ‘4 Another 1’, which sounds like it could have been a Greek Eurovision entry. The mid-tempo, uplifting guitar pop number ‘One Life’, and the super power ballads ‘As Long As You Are Mine’ and ‘Enough’ (duet with Jill Johnson). Although as good as the ballads are, you’re never too far away from another pop belter, with ‘Chainsaw’ and ‘Crazy For Love’ ending the album on a high.
This morning she appeared on Nyhetsmorgon to perform three songs from the album. She did ‘Survivor’, last year’s single ‘Save Me (SOS)’, and mercifully she also did one of the album’s new highlights ‘Don’t Hold Back On Love’. You can watch them all below.
And below that you can listen to previews of each of the songs.
The ‘One Life’ album was released in Sweden last week. But if you live outside of Sweden, you can pick it up on CD from our store.
