Greta Salóme for it is she, yes she who represented Iceland at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, is back with her first post-contest single, ‘Everywhere Around Me’.
Those of who you liked the sonic theatrics of her Eurovision entry ‘Never Forget’, should be pleased to learn that they’ve been kept intact this time around. We were never the biggest fans of ‘Never Forget’, truth be told, and certainly couldn’t understand the huge amount of fan support it got pre-contest. But ‘Everywhere Around Me’ is much more to our liking.
Written by Greta herself and produced by Bjarni Þorvaldsson, it’s a hugely melodic pop number with a respectful but distant nod to folk-lite. Bucketfuls of strings, piano and BIG BANGING DRUMS – and do we detect a key change shoehorned into proceedings? Yes, we do believe that we do.
