Norway had their third and final heat last night, meaning we now have three more finalists for next weekend’s big final.
Remarkably, a song that didn’t so much scream 6th place, as croak it out of tune, won the heat and progressed to the final. And we say remarkable not because we don’t like it (we LOVE it!), but just because it hasn’t been the kind of thing that Norway have been voting for at all in their Melodi Grand Prix this year. Or last year either, for that matter.
That song is ‘Bombo’ by Adelén. Holiday resort pop, catchy to the max, and ridiculously fun. Ridiculously ridiculous too. Latin flavoured, but total Scandipop. And the heat of the seasoning was only matched in temperature by the absolute hot mess that was the performance – as an audibly out of breath Adelén panted and shrieked her way through Ina Wroldsen and Quiz & Larossi’s fine work. Naturally though, that endeared it to us even more. We’re in love. And in awe.
Joining Adelén in the final last night was Sirkus Eliassen’s ‘I Love You Te Quiero’ (think Sean Banan crossed with Goldie Lookin Chain – *shudder*) and Gaute Ormåsen’s ‘Awake’ (quite good, mid-tempo poprock).
Watch the magnificent ‘Bombo’ below. And then below that is our other favourite song from last night, which sadly didn’t do anything in the results. It’s Anina’s ‘The Young’, a One Direction-esque stomper that really did deserve to do better. Not only is it a terrific pop track, but she genuinely gave the performance EVERYTHING – and she looked and sounded great while doing it. This is one song that we’re gonna be playing long after the contest is over.
