Iceland last night chose the song which they’ll send to the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.

After two heats, the final of Söngvakeppni took place. And they went with Eyþór and ‘Ég á Líf’. Don’t be put off by that bearded chap in the picture above – it’s a gorgeous ballad, and he sings it beautifully. It’s got a catchy chorus to it too – be prepared for some strange looks when you start uttering “Ég á Líf, Ég á Líf, la la la la la la la” unbeknownst to yourself.

Iceland’s Söngvakeppni contest this year wasn’t the best quality, and there was a lot of tripe on offer. Where was the pop? The dance? The schlager?! But thankfully, a great song won, and will go on to represent Iceland well at Eurovision. ‘Ég á Líf’ is written by Icelandic Eurovision stalwart  Örlygur Smari (Hera Björk, Euroband) and Peter Örn Gunnlaugsson.

Do also spare three minutes for Birgitta Haukdal’s ‘Meðal Andanna‘ though. It’s Another Ballad O’Clock, but it’s another stunner, at that.

This though, is ‘Ég á Líf’;
