She was one of the early breakout stars of this year’s Melodifestivalen, with her debut single ‘Songbird’. And now this week Ellen Benediktson has returned with a brand new track. It’s ‘When The Sun Comes Up’ – part of the Feminisktiskt Initiativ compilation album that also features the new Tove Styrke and Sarah Dawn Finer songs that we’ve already written about this week.

Surprise surprise folks, she’s gone all electro on us! ‘When The Sun Comes Up’ is more like something you’d hear from so many of Ellen’s Swedish electropop lady contemporaries, than what we expected from that soft and shy looking little girl on the Melodifestivalen stage. As well as the change in her music (which admittedly may just be for one song only) we also get to hear Ellen vocally let rip too. It’s a rousing song with a passionate chorus – and she rises to the occasion with larger and bolder VOX than we thought she was capable. And it really suits her too. We could get on board with an Ellen Benediktson album full of ‘When The Sun Comes Up’s much more than an Ellen Benediktson album full of ‘Songbird’s. Although actually, a good mix of the two would do just fine thank you very much. So long as the ratio favours the former…..
