Dansbandskampen: the latest live show!

Last night’s Dansbandskampen was a tad on the boring side, music wise, with only a few exceptions. Now that there are only five dansbands left, each one was given a pop song to perform, like in previous weeks, and a specially composed dansband song. But despite ten performances, only three stood out and were of any note. The rest all kind of merged into one.

Elisa’s gave the best performance of the night, with an absolute stunner of a song, the specially composed ‘När Du Vaknar är Jag Hos Dig’. It was pure schlager, both in its sound and in its visuals from Elisa. Classic schlager too, think Abba, Chips, Charlotte Nielsen, Friends, and bordering on Linda Bengtzing in parts. And Elisa delivered it with the same Melodifestivalen legend standard that she impressively managed when she took on Charlotte’s ‘Take Me To Your Heaven’ a few weeks back. Even if you haven’t been a fan of Dansbandskampen so far, you really must check out this song if you like schlager in any way, shape or form.

Oh, and Lionheart – make sure this goes on their debut album please!

The other two performances we loved, were both from CC & Lee, who have definitely got their mojo back after seemingly losing it for a couple of weeks last month and then bringing it back with a BANG last week. Their newly composed dansband track ‘Hela Havet Stormar’ was another piece of schlager delight. Catchy, classic, and performed with great ease by the schlager loving sisters. These two really do belong on the Melodifestivalen stage. Although they may have to wait until 2012, as when we met them at the start of Dansbandskampen last month, Lena (Lee) told us that she was due to give birth in early Feb.

When we first heard that they were covering P!nk’s ‘So What’, we weren’t really looking forward to it, as usually pop rock doesn’t lend itself very well to dansband – it’s so easy for it to sound a little bit too cheesy and bland. However, CC & Lee nailed it with a perfectly enjoyable re-aarangement, even incorporating a key change. Yes, it was still cheesy, but it was fun with it too.

As for the rest, well it was nice enough to watch them live on tv, but nothing to write home about unfortunately. If you’ve been following our coverage though and want to see the rest of this week’s performances, you can stream the whole show or the individual performance at SVT’s website here. If you just want the individual clips, click on the ‘Framträdanden’ option under the tv window.

Unfortunately, the result last night was a bad one too. Viewers sent CC & Lee home, eliminated from the competition. We’re going to miss them SO much, they always brightened up every episode, and were the one band you could rely on for the glitz, gamour, and gala – even when they weren’t given great songs to perform with. On the plus side, it means that they can concentrate now on getting their second album finished and released. And based on the two absolute gems we already know and love, that have been released as singles from it, ‘Honey’ and ‘Better Best Forgotten’, – it’s gonna be amazing!

There is still a slight hope though that CC & Lee will be in the final of Dansbandskampen. SVT revealed yesterday that viewers will later be able to vote one eliminiated act from the series into the grand final.
