Carola turned it OUT again at the weekend. In a continuation of her extended (and rightfully so) celebration of her 30 years in pop music, she was the guest star on the semi final of the latest series of Körslaget in Sweden. She came on and performed the opening number, backed by no less than THREE choirs. Those of course being the three choirs left in the competition, boasting such choir leaders as Anna Book and Elisa out of Elisa’s.
Obviously the addition of being backed by three choirs made for some amazing live vocals coming from that stage, and an element of camp drama too. But even leaving that aside, it was a jaw dropper of a performance for a variety of other reasons too. As viewers we get to witness Carola strut towards a podium in the middle of the dance floor, literally start clubbing on top of it for an extended period of time, and then launch into an all clubbed up pop performance with flailing arms, swishing hair, and pouting lips. It’s basically EXACTLY the kind of performance we want Carola to be putting on at this stage in her career. Carola hasn’t exactly been getting it right over the last few years, when it comes to giving us the fans (and we think we’re all on the same wavelength here, right?) what we want (Elvis, Barbra och Nej). But with this appearance, she proves that she’s back in tune with her fanbase. Or at least capable of tuning back in as and when she needs to.
Also on this weekend’s Carola special of Körslaget – Team Book’s performance of ‘Evighet‘, Team Elisa doing ‘Fångad Av En Stormvind‘, and Team Rickard’s ‘Himlen i Min Famn‘.
Best Carola news of all though – she was in the recording studio last week recording pop songs. Yes, that’s right, POP SONGS.
We cannot wait. She’s back to the fold!
