Ahead of this weekend’s Melodifestivalen final, here’s a song that was actually accepted into the 2014 contest – before being unceremoniously disqualified a few weeks before the final 32 were announced.

It’s ‘C’mon & Däns’ by Carina Perenkranz & Pernilla Parszyk, or Cape as they’re calling themselves for this release. Although neither monikor is what they’re really known for in Sweden. Instead, most (surely all, actually?) Swedes will recognise them as Judit & Judit – the two redhead beehived ladies who have been fronting KomHem’s advertising campaign for around five years now.

And it’s that tie-in with a commercial brand which unfortunately resulted in their disqualification from Melodifestivalen, as the publicly funded SVT eventually decided that they couldn’t be seen to be promoting a well known business alignment.

We’ll never know if it will have troubled this weekend’s final or not, had it been allowed to compete. And we’ll let you decide for yourselves. It’s a modern schlager offering that’s a bit WTF at first. But after a few listens it does reveal itself to be quite the earworm – if you allow it to get that far anyway. In terms of this year’s entries, think Pink Pistols crossed with Linda Bengtzing. And we can’t help but wonder if the former of those two ended up nabbing their place in Melodifestivalen because of Carina and Pernilla’s exclusion.

‘C’mon & Däns’ is out now, and to capitalise on the obvious international appeal – it’s been released outside of Sweden too….

Here’s the song and video;
