On Friday night, Avicii premiered his brand new single ‘Wake Me Up’ on BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong show.
And would you believe it – it’s a total change of sound for the young Swedish house squire. Quite poptastic, with a large dash of country music (!!!) and of course a little helping of dance. The vocals and melody from Aloe Blacc are sublimely catchy and instant. Although actually, the bit that truly stays in your head afterwards, is the instrumental chorus from Avicii himself. That is one infectious tune.
Avicii’s been one of the frontrunners of bringing dance music to a larger audience in recent years. But if ‘Wake Me Up’ doesn’t turn out to be his most commercially successful hit to date, then hats will be eaten. Or stetsons, to be more specific.
