Iconic by name and Iconic in concept – ahead of competing in the first semi-final of Melodifestivalen on Saturday night, A*Teens are out with their first new music in 22 years!
It incorporates a little bit of a tribute to their first-album inspirations ABBA, a little bit more of a tribute to the A*Teens that they evolved into throughout the albums that followed, but most of all it’s a tribute to the decades-defining art of the songwriting behind a certain kind of Swedish pop music, as well as the gigantic platform that allows something like this to shine so brightly for six weeks on an annual basis – Melodifestivalen.
Any new material from A*Teens after more than 20 years away simply HAD to be celebratory; nothing else would have worked. And this is precisely that; wrapped up in the biggest, shiniest bow they could feasibly have gotten away with before anything crossed over the line into tacky territory.
They got it so right with this.
Iconic!
