It’s always a pleasant surprise when one of your favourite artists pops up on a random new track that you didn’t even know had been made. It’s even more pleasant and even more of a surprise when that artist normally has a release schedule as irregular as this one here. It’s Annie. And it’s ‘Alien Summer’.
In this case, the delight described above is only equaled by the sound of the song itself – it’s a ridiculously jaunty little pop tune! Bliss in audio form. The melody is saccharine enough to give Annie full permission to go as doolally as she wishes on the vocals – a challenge she approaches with some gusto! And fully aware of this sonic display of unbridled joy, the production goes and joins in on the glee-for-all free-for-all, accompanying Annie and contributing to one of the most up-beat and danceable tracks she’s ever lent her name and vocals too.
