The womens football championships taking place in Germany right now have already given pop fans a treat in the form of Melanie C being dragged out of music release retirement, and dishing out the really quite good ‘Rock Me’, as an official single for the tournament. And now the Swedish team has got its very own theme song too.

It’s called ‘One Love One Goal’ by Anderz Wrethov. And it’s a strange mix of attempting to sound both ethnic and epic at the same time! In parts it sounds like a long lost film score, and in others it’s more like an Easter European Eurovision entry from the middle of the last decade. We doubt that Anderz was consciously trying to sound like either, but that’s what we’re hearing anyway!

As football songs go, it’s of course no ‘Champions’ by Shirley Clamp – but then, quite frankly, no sporting anthem ever has been or ever will be as good as that startling piece of tuneful cheer.

Here is the rousing ‘One Love One Goal’, and its inspirational music video!
