Icelandic pop Princess of the 90’s, Alda, tested the comeback waters late last year, with the charity single, ‘The Boobie Song’. Now though, she’s all poised to launch her proper comeback with brand new single, ‘You’re Coming Out’. She’s sent us the song and given us permission to cut and upload a clip of it so that you can have a listen too, a couple of months ahead of its release.
[audio:http://lowculture.co.uk/scandi/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Youre-Coming-Out-Clip.mp3|titles=You’re Coming Out – Clip]As you can hear, it’s a dirty electro pop track with synths and beats that we think pay homage to a Mr Red One. Lyrically, it’s a message for choosing wild nights out over boring nights in, with Alda playing the role of the girl urging her friend to cheer up and come out for a good old CLUB! A ‘Girls Night Out’, if you will! Although it could also be interpreted as something of a gay anthem – with the lyrics referring to the suggestion that a closeted guy or girl should embrace their inner homo, should it exist.
ANYWAY, before the song’s release, Alda has launched a competition for budding remixers and producers. She wants somebody to come up with a killer remix for the clubs, in keeping with the lyrical message of the song. So she’s put the vocal parts online for anyone to download and have a go at remixing. The winning remixer will get their track on the release, and also receive a share of the royalties too.
It’s all being done via soundcloud. Full details of the remix competition can be found here (it closes on February 28th), and the vocal parts can be downloaded from here. The winner will be chosen by our very good friend, Craig Jones of Eurosolution at Music House (the UK’s leading club promo agency). Craig has also been the main DJ at the legendary London nightclub, G-A-Y, for over a decade.
We love the idea of these remix competitions. In Sweden, Gravitonas have recently adopted the method too, and have received some fantastic entries from participants, and in the process, unearthed some genuine talent too.
