Swedish pop legends Alcazar today kicked off their 20th anniversary celebrations, and revealed that this year will be their last together.

We have a new single and a farewell tour. With plenty more to come throughout 2018.

First of all, the farewell tour. Those of us who were at their “last ever gig” at Stockholm Pride in August 2010 – and have subsequently enjoyed many more gigs and releases from the band since that very day – will inevitably be taking this news with a pinch of salt. Alcazar had one of their most successful eras to date over the past couple of years – thanks to their residency shows that kept on selling out and getting extended and then selling out again. They’ll be back again. Their love for the stage is too much, as is the demand for them to be on it, and the amount of money that people are willing to pay to see it. But tickets for this large-scale tour need to be shifted, so let’s call it their last ever one. For now.

Below are the dates, for which tickets go on sale on Friday morning at blixten.se;

5 october – Halmstad, Halmstad Arena
6 october – Skövde, Arena Skövde
12 october – Örebro, Conventum Arena
13 october – Falun, Jalas Arena
19 october – Västerås, Bombardier Arena
20 october – Malmö, Baltiska Hallen
26 october – Linköping, SAAB Arena
27 october – Eskilstuna, Stiga Sports Arena
2 november – Kristianstad, Kristianstad Arena
3 november – Växjö, Fortnox Arena
9 november – Luleå, Luleå Energi Arena
10 november – Umeå, Umeå Energi Arena
16 november – Uppsala, IFU Arena
17 november – Gävle, Gavlehovshallen

Note the lack of Stockholm and Gothenburg dates. Not to mention the lack of any international dates. So it’s safe to say that more details of their 2018 plans will be revealed very soon.

For now, it’s also quite clear that they’ll be playing EuroPride in the summer. EuroPride 2018 will return to Sweden – in not just one, but two cities. It’ll take place in Stockholm between July 27th and August 5th, and then in Gothenburg between August 14th and 19th. And what better way to celebrate EuroPride’s return to Sweden than by getting Alcazar themselves to front it.

Which brings us to the new single!

Released today, it’s the official anthem of EuroPride 2018, ‘In The Name Of Love’. Written by Joy Deb, Linnea Deb, and Isabelle Sikai, Alcazar themselves say that it is “a tribute to all who dare to be themselves in all their colours. Thank you Pride for 20 years of support and thanks to the most loyal audience anyone could ever hope for. We have come a long way but the fight continues. Long live love and disco!

Obviously stay tuned for more news in a year when one of the greatest pop bands of all time turn 20. And here is that new single (along with their absolute greatest of hits);
