What’s this? Sweden’s Tove Styrke is back with a brand-new album. It’s her fourth in total, and her first since 2018’s ‘Sway’ album. This is ‘HARD’. Capitalisation on that word is artist’s own, so you *know* she means business on this record.
What’s on it? Her four most recent singles (‘Start Walking’, ‘Show Me Love’, ‘Hardcore’ and ‘YouYouYou’), plus five brand-new tracks.
What’s it like? By far and away her most POP album since that self-titles debut album back in 2010. The singles ‘Start Walking’ and ‘YouYouYou’ in particular reminded us all that when Tove Styrke sets her mind to making pure, limit-free, mainstream pop, she can do it better than most. And this album is mercifully an extension of that approach.
Highlights from the new songs? The Hits are most definitely the turbo-charged dancehall stylings of ’24H’, plus the ’90s college-campus, woe-ridden sounds of ‘Bruises’. ‘HARD’ is going to be a chapter in Tove Styrke’s career that we’re gonna want to keep returning to, for sure.
You can find ’24H’ on our Best New Pop playlist.
