ALBUM: Sondrey – ‘Insomnia’

What’s this? The debut album from Norwegian artist Sondrey. His first collection of songs is called ‘Insomnia’ and is out now.
What’s on it? Three earlier singles – ‘Insomnia’, ‘Talk In Your Sleep’ and ‘High In Love’ – plus eight brand-new tracks!
What’s the album like? We’re sure he won’t mind comparisons to The Weeknd, as both the music and his vocal are so close to what Ol’ Abel has dominated the airwaves with over the pas eighteen months. But what we will say on that is that those who investigated the ‘After Hours’ album hoping to find more hits in the same vein as the singles from it, but came away somewhat disappointed, would do well to check out Sondrey’s ‘Insomnia’ album. As a whole body of work, it’s much more on the POP end of the music spectrum, without any lulls or filler moments. Even the down-tempo moments manage to stand out, thanks to the importance that’s been placed on the melody aspect of every song.
Highlights? Singles aside, for the up-tempo thrills, we were most partial to ‘Cheap Emotions’, ‘My Type’ and ‘Ecstacy’. Whereas ‘If Time Could Stand Still’ offers up the most striking slow number on the record. But such is the uniformed sound and style that each song has been created in, it’s an album that’s best enjoyed as intended – from start to finish!

You can find both ‘Cheap Emotions’ and ‘Insomnia’ on our Best New Synthpop playlist.
