What’s this? Sweden’s Oscar Enestad is finally out with his very first album. ‘Drömmar’ serves as his debut LP and was released on Friday.
What’s on it? 13 songs, of which eight are previously released, well-received singles, along with five brand-new tracks.
Is ‘I Love It’ on it? ‘I Love It’ is not on it. The album coveres the period from a few months after that timeless classic, when Oscar switched to singing in Swedish, and shifted his style of music somewhat drastically.
What’s it like? We’ve long thought that Oscar Enestad was quite underrated as an artist in Sweden. In a post-Victor Leksell musical landscape, mainstream acclaim has surprsingly evaded Oscar, despite songs like ‘Svarta Moln’ and ‘Se På Oss Nu’ in his canon – songs that would be mega hits for the aforementioned Victor. And this album only serves to heighten that bafflement – as you hear all these would-be hits, beautifully composed and laid out in succession, it hits home just what a huge music talent that Oscar has blossomed into.
Highlights? The two songs we’ve just mentioned remain his finest, but recent single ‘Du Är Allt Jag Vill Ha’ stands out by way of sounding so different to anything else on here – and being the biggest and most straight-forward pop song. Of the brand-new tracks, ‘Tunga Steg’ and ‘Ingen Berör Mig Som Du’ make themselves known as the big hitters and instant keepers.
