A new Magnus Carlsson album! Released this week, it follows on from the much deserved success of his BIG Melodifestivalen hit ‘Möt Mig i Gamla Stan’.
What’s it like? What’s it like? What’s it like? You know that old saying “they don’t make albums like that anymore”? Well guess what? Magnus Carlsson does! Rejecting the supposed cool, the perceived credible, and the overrated artistic development – Magnus Carlsson is sticking to what he does best. SCHLAGER. And this is more admirable than ever – because no other bugger in Scandinavia has remained this shamelessly schlager. After so many other acts have moved on from the genre, ignoring the fact that not all of the listening public have – Magnus Carlsson is our sole survivor, and our celebratory saviour. And we salute him for that. We actually love him for it.
What are the highlights? Well aside from the singles, (the previously featured on Scandipop ‘Tillsammans’, ‘Glorious’, and ‘Möt Mig i Gamla Stan’) we’re also losing our marbles to the sublime ‘Nej Nej Nej’. In fact, we think it might be the best thing on there. Also of note is ‘Om Jag Dör Här Och Nu’. And ‘Faller Långsamt’ is pretty amazing too.
There are a lot of songs in the tracklisting. 14, yes – but that’s including English language versions of most of the songs, plus an instrumental version of his #melfest hit. It’s essentially an 8 track album. And 8 absolute gems they are too.
